Noblesville Indiana may not be a city that many people are too familiar with but sitting just north of Indianapolis with over 50,000 residents this little town has a lot to offer. History dates back to 1802 with the first trading post in the area being established by a settler, William Conner and his wife. Their home is now a part of a historical village called Conner Prairie Pioneer Settlement.
The Hamilton Courthouse and Hamilton County’s Sheriff’s Residence and Jail are two major building with architectural significance. Both were completed in the 1870s and are regarded as exceptional examples of the Second Empire style. Noblesville also has many buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places including Courthouse Square.
Noblesville may be better known on a national level for more sinister reasons. The jail once housed a teenage Charles Manson and the Ku Klux Klan was very active in the area during the 1920s. Despite this, Noblesville seems to have moved beyond its passed with a now thriving tourism appeal that includes seven golf courses, historic sightseeing, a large public park system, and downtown shopping among others.
